"Do you guys know each other" George asked,
"Not really, I nearly knocked him down once" Joy said, and Martins was happy she didn't mention how rude he was.
"Wow, it must really be fate that brought you here" George father said. Fate, the same thing many believe to be inevitable, Martins still believe it was his decision that brought him here not some stupid fate people believe everybody have before being born.
"Sir" Martins tried to say something but George father stopped him
"Call me Chief, I didn't take a title to be called sir" he said making Martins smiled
"Yes Chief" he replied
"So what do you want to say" he asked
"About what you said earlier, I don't see any need for that" he still insist.
"You are persistent" he said "well, will see about that, George come with me" chief said walking away, to the bedroom and George followed him
"Stay with our guest" the mother said to Joy and gave a sweet smile to Martins, no wonder she looked familiar, Joy have her features. "Call me Mrs Igwe" she said and left, it was that moment Martins remembered George surname.
"I heard you saved my brother" Joy said, making Martins straighten, he is looking everywhere except joy.
"No big deal" he said, joy sat opposite him, Martins still standing.
"You can sit down, MARTINS" she said stressing his name, to remind him how he refuse to tell him the day they first met.
"Am sorry, I was in a bad mood that day" he said in his defense
"So bad that even my smile couldn't brighten it" she said giving him that same smile, surely it can make a dark cold night bright dear Martins thought to himself
"Not really, but what makes you so confident your smile can brighten my day" he asked, not many girls are that confident.
"Dad said I have the prettiest smile" she said and brought out his phone, and did some typing and smiled, he is typing to his boyfriend perhaps, that's all in Martins head, he took his time to watch her smile, as she type. Martins didn't even know when smile krept up his face, her smile is that contagious
"It sure is" he said, as he can't look pass that beautiful smile.
"What did you say" she asked as she didn't hear him well.
"Nothing, am about to leave" he said standing up
"Come on wait for my parents" she said, he can't wait any longer for her presence is causing havoc to his heart.
"Its already evening, my mom will be worried"
"You are mummy's boy" she teased him, making faces.
"No am not, am just a boy who cares for his mother that's all" Martins defended
"You just stated the quality of a mummy's boy" Joy giggles, Martins was about to defend when Chief came back.
"So young man, since you don't want our help, how about you help us" He said, Martins looked at George as if he will telepathically tell him what's going on.
"How do you mean sir" he asked
"My daughter here will take her jamb next year, and she is not really a bright girl" He said, and Martins scoffed at the man's bluntness
"Come on dad" joy complained
"I heard from George that you are a very bright student" he said
"That was years ago Chief" Martins know his brain is still active but he just won't say yes.
"Still, I want you to tutor my daughter" he said, both joy and Martins gasped,
"What" said the both.
"Don't worry boy, I will pay you, 3k everyday" he said and Martins eye widened, that's like free money cause he stress himself daily only for 2k at most, and here a deal of 3k is before him. With the fact that he needs money, especially for his mother's medicine it clouded his judgment
"Sure, I will tutor her" he answered and it was that moment of decision did he realize that he just started a long thread of fate which end is uncertain.
"Do I have a say" Joy asked
"No" both George and Chief answered.
"So when can you start" George asked, he is just glad he have his friend back.
"Monday, if that's alright" he said and they all agreed, Joy angrily went to her room, it visible she hates studying, now she have to do it at home. Martins is conflicted, he watch as Joy went away, is this the right choice, he thought to himself.
