Chapter 12
Its been almost a week since she took the jamb, she is currently in the cyber to check her result, he is so nervous, mainly because she don't want to let Martins down. They haven't seen each other, except for the exam day when Martins came to ask how she did. So now she believe she will get to see Martins if she passed.
"Its out" the computer operator said, Joy closed her eyes cause she is nervous. "260" she said and joy opened her eyes wide.
"What did you just say" she asked
"You passed 260" she replied, Joy shouted with joy, funny irony.
"Print it out" she said, the operator did and she paid, the first person she wanted to show it to is Martins, but she doesn't even have his number.
She went home to show his father, her mother traveled to London, her younger sister gave birth, so she went over there to help her nurse her baby.
"You did good" Chief said once he saw the result "call Martins, I need to see him" he said, Joy heart leaped with joy, though she don't have the number she knows who does.
He called Chisom and begged for the number, she sent her the number, she was so nervous when she dialed the number.
"Hello" Martins said and Joy melted
"Its joy" she said and Martins went silent for a while "are u still there" she asked, Martins cleared his throat
"Yes, am just surprise you called" he said already knowing how she got the number.
"Can you come over my dad wants to see you" she said,
"Hope everything is alright" he asked, he feels its related to her jamb.
"Come and you will find out" she said and hung up, she wants to play him a little.
"Have you called him" Chief asked as she came out, she gave her father a nod.
She kept looking at the clock, hoping to see Martins walk through their door again. She jerked up immediately she heard the gate opened, she rushed to the door.
"Tell me you passed" Martins said as she opened the door, she wanted to lie but she couldn't hide the smile
"260" she answered, to her greatest surprise Martins draw her closer for a warm embrace.
"You just made me proud" he said, the embrace was heaven to joy that she doesn't want to let go
"Is he here" They broke apart as they heard chief.
"Yes" she answered as they both walked to the sitting room
"Good afternoon chief" Martins said
"My boy, you did good, I will surely keep my promise" Chief said and martins nodded "sorry am leaving after you just arrived, its an emergency" Chief said
"No problem Chief" he said
"Give him something to eat" he said to her daughter and left the two. Joy walked and stood in front of Martins
"So what would you like" she asked, he is not hungry,
"Can I see the print out" he asked
"So you don't believe me" she asked with raised eyebrow
"Not that, but it will give me a certain level of satisfaction" he said and Joy showed it to him.
Seeing Martins makes Joy realize how much in love she is with him, no matter how much she denies it, the truth still remains.
"I love you Martins, and am not afraid to say it" She said and Martins looked at her. "Falling with you was a lot like sleeping, you first get dizzy then slowly you fall asleep. That's how I fell for you, slow but steady" she said and Martins kept looking at her "no matter how much I try to deny it, its a fact and I don't care what you think" she said
"Being with you is impossible, its like a bicycle catching a plane, like a Zebra killing a Lion, a baby running before walking, its just impossible" he said and it disappointed joy
"Impossible, I thought that's another word for I'm possible" she said reminding Martins of his own word, she then ran to her room leaving Martins in deep thought.
He kept thinking everything he did to avoid Joy, the first day he left her, lying to her he is taken, calling her younger sister, no matter what he did, she still coming back, and his feelings still getting stronger. Martins just realize that some people no matter how you try to avoid them, no matter the decision and choices you make, they will still get back to you. Meeting some people is just beyond our control, really they are fated to be in our life. Martins just realized Joy is tied to him, call it fate or destiny, its just unavoidable, with that he rushed upstairs to her room ignoring how badly things might end.
